Located in the heart of historic downtown Charleston, SC, High Wire Distilling Company is dedicated to making premium, handcrafted, small batch spirits. Their approach is simple: seek the finest ingredients available and develop recipes using a creative, culinary approach. All of their products are batch distilled in a hand-hammered, German copper still to create the finest Southern spirits available.
High Wire Distilling is producing a distinctive line of small batch spirits including gins, rums, whiskeys and vodkas using premium, specialized ingredients. Owner Scott Blackwell, a Culinary Institute of America trained baker, applies his knowledge of artisanal grains and culinary techniques to the spirits he creates. With a main focus on local, unique ingredients, the distillery also features an apothecary area where experimental bench formulas can be created and tested in a small-scale format.
The location for High Wire Distilling is as unique as the spirits—a rustic 6,000 square foot warehouse located on Upper King Street. Spacious with a vintage industrial feel, the Production Area features a 20ft high, barreled ceiling and a beautiful, hand-hammered, copper still as a focal point. Abundant natural light and racks of wooden barrels create an excellent atmosphere for entertaining. High Wire’s 50 person Tasting Room features warm, rough hewn cypress walls with large windows through which one can view the distilling equipment and process. In the apothecary area, visitors receive a sensory education about the distilling process, ingredients, and formula creation.
A place locals and visitors can frequent, High Wire Distilling offers tours and tastings Wednesday-Saturday from 11AM to 5PM. The space is also available for intimate, private events for up to 100 people. Parking is available onsite.
